TouchBistro recently released the results of an extensive online survey of people across the US regarding restaurant decisions. Here are some of the big takeaways that may affect your restaurant going forward.
- More than half the responders eat out every week. In fact, 48% go out for food twice a week or more. While take out is becoming increasingly popular among the younger generation, it is obvious that there is still a place for sit down establishments.
- Only 18% of the responders frequent the same place(s) without trying something new once in a while. First, this shows that there is room to scoop up new customers. Second, it shows that you need to work to get that repeat business.
- Most people ranked food as number one when it came to choosing a restaurant. Believe it or not, the type of food, outranked online reviews. For many years, the adage was that food brings people in, and customer service makes them return, but 70% of the responders said they would come back for good food, even if customer service was just okay. Some of the most sought-after food types included locally sourced, low calorie, gluten-free, and vegetarian.
- Friend feedback is the most important type of feedback. More than 90% would go to a restaurant based on the recommendation of a buddy, and 75% would avoid a place if a friend said it was bad.
