Whether you are about to open a new restaurant, or you are doing something as simple as ordering new table linens, one of the first decisions you have to make is in regard to color. Here are a few tips about colors to use or avoid in your dining area.
- Red – Red is a no-no for most restaurants. It’s fine for fast food because they want you to order as much as possible and get out. If you want your patrons to feel relaxed and unrushed, red is a poor choice.
- Orange and yellow – These are great options because they evoke cheerful feelings and make a person think of food. Many fruits and vegetables are orange or yellow, and if you keep the colors closer to neutral instead of bright, you may just have the recipe for an enhanced dining experience.
- Green and brown – Not every restaurant can pull off the Starbucks color scheme, but they are great for establishments that want to give a healthy vibe. Green is associated with health, environment, and nature in general. Brown is also a color that evokes nature, including wood.
- Purple and Blue – These colors are more likely to make your patrons thirsty rather than hungry. Try it in a bar or coffee house, but a sit-down eatery probably wants to avoid these colors. Perhaps the one exception is a seafood restaurant.
